If I’d only followed my own advice…
I wonder if I’m the only one who has ever thought that. The only one who has felt it.
Wondering about where you would be or what you would be doing if you did manage to follow your own advice poses an interesting question. More than one, really. It starts out by questioning how different your life would be if you did as you suggested? If you followed the path you laid out for others to follow?
This is not the kind of thing you just start thinking about. At least, it isn’t the kind of thing I just start thinking about. A question like this has to bubble up from someplace deep inside. A place poked or prodded by someone else. It isn’t the kind of place any of us likes to go unless we are forced to go there. Asked to go there by someone else.
What prompted my visit was an email from someone who requesting information on calculating a labor rate reflective of all the costs involved in the employment of his technicians. His query reminded me of how much I’d written on this very subject and the tools I created to make this kind of calculation easy and understandable.
It also reminded me of all the things I taught over the years and how long it took to implement or execute some of them—if I was able to implement or execute them at all!
So, let me ask you the same question… How would your life—your experience—be different if only you’d followed your own advice? If only you had done what you told someone else they had to do.
Where might you be? What might you be doing? What would it look and feel like?
