It’s OK…

Not me… As in, I’m not the one I’m referring to as OK. Although, in all honesty, I am.

The “I’m OK…” I’m referring to belongs to Jane Marczewski, aka Nightbirde. And she’s not OK. At least, not physically.

Who is she and what’s this all about? It’s about hope, courage, and the kind of indomitable spirit that transcends the darkest kind of reality.

It’s about a wraith-thin thirty-year-old with the smile of an angel walking out onto the America’s Got Talent stage to perform an original song. A song about her cancer journey entitled It’s OK.

I can’t tell you about the song. I suppose I could. But I’ve chosen not to. I hope you’ll listen to it for yourself.  I have provided the lyrics so you can follow along, however. I won’t try to capture the profound impact she had on me or the thousands of other cancer patients who were privileged to watch or listen. What I will do is share two quotes I think we could all benefit from. The wisdom of someone wise far beyond her years facing a persistent and unrelenting enemy.

“It’s important that everyone knows I’m so much more than all the bad things that have happened to me…”

Think about that within the context of your own life for a moment. About transcendence. Resilience. Courage. And grace. Then, wrap your head around this…

You Can’t Wait

“You can’t wait until life isn’t hard anymore to be happy.”

Think about the power of those words. What she’s telling us. The fact that we have choices. That we are stronger than we could ever imagine we are. More than all the bad things that can happen to us.

At least, we can be.

That is if we realize that life isn’t waiting for us to be happy. Happy is a choice you make regardless of what’s going on around you. Whether or not those things are easy or hard. Good or bad. That, and it’s OK not to be OK…

I think Jane Marczewski, aka Nightbirde, has chosen wisely. Now, it’s our turn.

Here are the lyrics…

I moved to California in the summertime
I changed my name thinking that it would change my mind
I thought that all my problems, they would stay behind
I was a stick of dynamite and it just was a matter of time, yeah

Oh dang, oh my, now I can’t hide
Said I knew myself but I guess I lied

It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost

We’re all a little lost and it’s alright
It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright
(It’s alright, it’s alright)
It’s alright, it’s alright

I wrote a hundred pages but I burned ‘em all (Uh I, I burned ‘em all)
I blow through yellow lights and don’t look back at all (Uh, I don’t look back at all)
Yeah, you can call me reckless, I’m a cannonball (Uh, I’m a cannonball)
Don’t know why I take the tightrope and cry when I fall

Oh dang, oh my, now I can’t hide
Said I knew what I wanted but I guess I lied

It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright
It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright

(It’s alright, it’s alright)
It’s alright, it’s alright
(It’s alright, it’s alright)
It’s alright, it’s alright

[Bridge]
Oh-oh-oh-oh, it’s alright
Oh-oh-oh-oh, it’s alright
Oh-oh-oh-oh, it’s alright
Oh-oh-oh-oh, it’s alright
To be lost sometimes

[Chorus]
It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok

If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright
It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright

It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok (Ohhh)
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright
It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok (Ohhh)
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright

It’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok, it’s ok
If you’re lost
We’re all a little lost and it’s alright…

I came across her video on FB, and I immediately went looking for the song. I came across your blog, and I'm glad you wrote this. I wish the best for you. And I'm glad you're ok.
P.S. The whole song is on Spotify if you haven't heard it.
