The best thing that can happen to you when you’re chained to your desk is having your sentence reduced through “earned release.”
If you were incarcerated, getting out early is probably the result of time off for good behavior. But time off for good behavior almost always flows out of a process monitored and administrated by committee.
What do you do when you’re the boss: the one responsible for your own schedule? What do you do when it’s a committee of one who decides if or when you get out or take off?
Whether you are a single proprietor with no employees or the President and CEO of your own business — the statistical probabilities are slim you will ask for or take time off. Period! But time off is critical to both your mental and physical well-being. That’s why I’ve come to believe we all need to turn that expression: Time Off for Good Behavior, on its head. Why we should say instead that Time Off IS Good Behavior!
I took some of that time off today when Lesley and I met our son and daughter-in-law at the hospital to celebrate our newest granddaughter’s First Birthday, and it was glorious!
No working on promotion and publicity for misfire. No outlining a column for the magazine. Just a beautiful day off spent staring at the incredible joy of new life.
It was wondrous. It was regenerative. It was a constant reminder — along with our other three grandchildren — of why I worked so hard throughout my treatment and recovery.
What about the guilt you are inevitably going to feel by not working? I think we should turn that on its head as well and reserve the guilt for not taking that time off!
Now, to be clear! This is NOT something I did today. It’s the result of an interview that took place a few days ago and that was release today by Carm Capriotto and Remarkable Results Radio. It’s all about Misfire. How it came to be and what it’s all about. I think it’s one of the best interviews I’ve ever sat for and hope you will agree. Carm is a Master at what he does and it shows here. You can find the Podcast at Remarkable Results Radio #468.
